Cebu Club Reviews

Some consider the downtown Cebu City clubs as "foreigner-unfriendly"; this reviewer believes that "Attitude is everything": if you're searching for a good time you can find it here / if you're searching for a bad experience you can find that also. Each to their own.
*DO BE CAREFUL while barhopping downtown, as there are many unsavory characters roaming the streets especially during late-night/early morning hours.
*Virtually all these clubs are NOT easily wheelchair-accessible.

 

Apple Music Lounge Location: Manalilli Street, Cebu City Date of visit: October 28, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P200 Barfine: P2500 Dancer / GRO / staff comments: When we entered, no other customers present and the only dancer was sprawled in a chair (but she did get up and start dancing when we came in.) The other two dancers came in from outside and desperately tried to get us to sit down. Total of three dancers, none attractive. Music: Loud. Layout / condition of club: Upstairs; small and dark, basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs (tables do have checkered tablecloths!) Sleaze & fun factor: We didn't stay long enough to find out. Summary: Typical basic downtown club.

Apple Bikini Bar Location: Pelaez Street, Cebu City Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P260 Barfine: No barfine. Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Manager seemed unfriendly. Music: Loud pop music. Layout / condition of club: Upstairs; small and dark, basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs. Sleaze & fun factor: One dancer enthusiastically performed for a foreign customer buying ladies drinks. Summary: Typical basic downtown club.

Aquarius Disco Location: Junquera Street, Cebu City Date of visit: October 28, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P35 Soft drink: P35 Ladies Drink: None (No GRO's) Barfine: None (No GRO's) Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Four male staff were friendly and helpful: "Sit down, sir! Beer, sir?" Music: Very loud! Layout / condition of club: Third floor, with narrow, dark and filthy stairwells to enter (Don't touch the handrails!!) Large central dance floor surrounded by tables and plastic chairs. Aircon off, very hot. Sleaze & fun factor: NA. Summary: We visited at 10pm Friday evening; there were no customers in the club. Staff said: "Come back tomorrow night, many customers!" (I visited this club in 1999, during my first visit to the Philippines, and on that evening it was a wild scene with over a hundred drunk and gyrating Filipinos.)

Bottoms Up Bikini Bar Location: Junquera Street, Cebu City Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P120 Barfine: P2500 (P700 to club, P1800 to girl.) Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Friendly / topless, one danced bottomless. Music: Loud pop music. Layout / condition of club: Large upstairs club, stairs to enter. About 20 tables / good condition for this area of town. Sleaze & fun factor: Lively dancing, one dancer performed with a beer bottle. Summary: Very popular club (95% of customers Pinoy.)

Camelot Bar & KTV Location: Sanciangko Street, Cebu City Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P250 double Barfine: P2500 Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Friendly! Music: Loud. Layout / condition of club: Upstairs; basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs.Cute Camelot murals on walls. Sleaze & fun factor: Dancers fun / wanted their photos taken. Summary: Tiny, fun upstairs club.

Celebrity Disco Location: Pelaez Street (Century Hotel), Cebu City *This club was raided by the NBI on January 27, 2006. They reportedly picked up 15 women, 6 of whom were minors. Per the Cebu SunStar, "The Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has filed trafficking charges against the manager of a strip joint raided by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)."

Dream Place Location: Junquera Street, Cebu City Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P120 small, P240 large. Barfine: none Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Dancers friendly, manager not so. Music: Loud Layout / condition of club: Upstairs; basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs. Sleaze & fun factor: Depends on dancer, some are naughty. Summary: Small, sleazy club.

E & M Location: Pelaez Street, Cebu City (bikini bar upstairs, music lounge downtstairs) Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P120 small, P240 tall. Barfine: P2000 (P600 to bar, P1400 to girl) Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Girls did approach customers at table (friendly.) Music: Loud. Layout / condition of club: Upstairs; basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs; "classic" egg-crate ceiling. Sleaze & fun factor: Boring during our visit. Summary: Typical downtown club.

Golden Crust Bakery and Disco Location: Colon Street, Cebu City Date of visit: October 28, 2005 Prices Cover charge to disco: P35 (no cover for bakeshop and sing-along.) San Miguel Beer: P28 small, P75 Grandé Soft drink: P28 Ladies Drink / Barfine: None (No GRO's, it is a public disco) Music: LOUD!! Layout / condition of club: Street-level (wheelchair-accessible.) Basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs. Golden Crust has three venues: In front is a bakeshop with a few tables; further in is a sing-along KTV; and in the rear is the disco/KTV, with alternating schedule of disco for one hour, then KTV the next hour, etc. Sleaze & fun factor: On weekend evenings this place is full of workers, standbys, college students, gays, lesbians, drunkards, and freelancers in varied states of intoxication. They come here to drink, dance, croon and find a partner for the evening. Summary: You never know what you will find, always worth at least a walk-through.

Golden Sun Location: Pelaez Street, Cebu City Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P220 small, P260 tall. Barfine: P2800 (P1800 to bar, P1000 to girl) Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Dancers friendly. Music: Not as loud as others nearby. Layout / condition of club: Street-level (wheelchair-accessible.) Basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs. Sleaze & fun factor: Playful dancers. Summary: Small downstairs club.

Hang Out Beer House **Closed as of January, 2006 ** Location: P. Gullas Street (aka "Food Street", the alley-like street full of food stalls behind MetroGaisano), Cebu City Date of visit: October 28, 2005 Hang Out has three venues: Ground floor: Sing-along beer hall with GRO's. Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P20 small, P53 Grandé Soft drink: P20 Ladies Drink: P105 GRO / staff comments: One GRO was cute, but looked very young. Music: Loud sing-along. Second floor: Very dark sing-along with booths and GRO's. Cover charge: none SMB: P35 small Soft drink: P35 Ladies Drink: P105. Barfine: P2000 GRO / staff comments: Mamasan immediately tried to get us to sit down. Too dark to see the GRO's (presumably this is a blessing in disguise.) Music: Loud sing-along. Layout / condition of club: This place is nearly pitch-black, thus cleverly hiding the grime, cockroaches and rats underfoot. Sleaze & fun factor: Presumably anything goes in the pitch-black booths. Third floor: Very dark dance hall with loud music and GRO dance partners at P10 per dance. My partner provided five minutes of playful grinding on the dance floor, and then invited me to follow her downstairs to a booth on the second floor. Summary: This club is not for the timid, but should be experienced at least once.

Lanies KTV and Bikini Bar Location: Sanciangko Street, Cebu City Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P250 double Barfine: P2500 Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Friendly. OK to take photos. Music: LOUD. Layout / condition of club: Upstairs; basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs. Sleaze & fun factor: Fun, friendly dancers. Summary: Tiny club.

Octopus Bikini Bar Location: Pelaez Street, Cebu City (Bikini bar upstairs, music lounge downstairs) Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P70 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P200 Barfine: unknown. Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Staff seemed unfriendly on first visit; but very friendly on 2nd visit two weeks later. Music: Loud. Layout / condition of club: Upstairs; basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs. Very classy stage mural! (see above) Sleaze & fun factor: Very fun on 2nd visit. Summary: Seems to depend upon visitors.

Pinai Game Birds Location: Corner Pelaez & Sanciangko Streets, Cebu City Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P70 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P200 Barfine: P2500 (P1000 to bar, P1500 to girl) Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Staff a little surly, but one dancer very friendly. Music: Loud. Layout / condition of club: Upstairs; dark and dirty, couches are shredded. Sleaze & fun factor: One dancer gave a great show! Summary: Upstairs shithole, partially redeemed by one friendly dancer.

Pinoy Super Disco Club Location: Corner of Junquera and Sanciangko Streets, Cebu City Date of visit: October 28, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P39 small, P69 Grandé Soft drink: P39 Ladies Drink: P100 Barfine: P300 (bar only, negotiate additional with girl.) Dancer / GRO / staff comments: GRO's are friendly but not very attractive. Music: DJ in early evenings, then live band at 10:30pm on weekends. Layout / condition of club: Second floor, extremely steep stairway (a drunken fall here would most likely result in a broken neck, so be careful / and wash your hands with acetone after touching the filthy handrails!) Large club with large dance floor surrounded by tables and plastic chairs. Aircon off but windows open, very hot. Sleaze & fun factor: Dance Dance Dance. Summary: Popular public disco. Some Pinoy couples here know their ballroom dance steps. Dance your buns off and find a not-so attractive partner for the evening.

Scorpion KTV & Bikini Bar Location: Sanciangko Street, Cebu City Date of visit: August 7, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P60 Soft drink: P60 Ladies Drink: P150 small, P300 lg. Barfine: P2000 Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Our group was approached by waiter but not by dancers. Music: Loud Layout / condition of club: Street-level (wheelchair-accessible.) Large club, basic furniture of small tables and hard chairs. We visited the bikini bar section, but this club also has a piano bar, a music lounge, and a disco. Sleaze & fun factor: Boring the night of our visit. Summary: Large, boring club.

Sunrise Dance Hall Location: Pelaez Street, Cebu City (above Apple Bikini Bar) *Presently closed.

Tina's Darknest Location: Pelaez Street, Cebu City Date of visit: December 30, 2005 Prices Cover charge: none San Miguel Beer: P50 Soft drink: P40 Ladies Drink: P150 Barfine: P600 (bar portion only.) Dancer / GRO / staff comments: Only three dancers in the bar, but friendly. Music: Not so loud...kind of a nice change. Layout / condition of club: Ground floor. This was previously the roofed outdoors billiards hall next to McSherry Pension House. It looks like they put up some corrugated metal roofing for walls, added some faux marble flooring and a small wooden stage...voila, bikini bar! They didn't even have to move the bar / cashier stand. One billiards table. Sleaze & fun factor: Not much happening tonite (lots of bargirls go home to the province for the holidays, so it's typically a slow time in the clubs.) Summary: Great...another cheesy downtown club. *Review by a different patron: "Superb Bar. For those that don't know Tina was half owner of Black HoLe and has been in the bar scene longer tahn any other bar operator in Cebu City. This is the downtown bar to watch."
